The Alchemy of Representation

Hello and welcome to The Fellowship of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts Virtual Gallery. This show was originally set to open in March in celebration of Women’s History Month but was delayed due to needed improvements to the Website. We will continue to make updates throughout 2026 to improve the viewing experience.

The Alchemy of Representation

To many art can seem like a magic trick, a transmutation of raw materials into something extraordinary. Each of these artists all rooted in the same foundations of technical rigor and representation, have maintained an impressive commitment to their practice.

Translating internal states into physical form. Emphasizing how things are experienced, not just how they are. Each artist shows an ongoing investigation using representation as a starting point. The work is often capturing transient states and opposing forces, presence vs. absence, digital vs physical, emotion vs structure, abstraction vs. realism. Each piece serves as a meditation or an inquiry in between the next.

Thank you to the Artists. A special thank you to Barbara Sosson, President of the Fellowship, and Mostafa Darwish. I hope you enjoy the show.
